Are You an IT Consultant or A Computer Technician?

Most people know the difference between a builder and an architect, a bookkeeper and a chartered accountant and a cook and a chef. But there seems to be some confusion about the difference between computer technicians and IT consultants.

For some reason there is a preponderance of computer technicians who love calling themselves IT consultants. And there is the same preponderance of IT consultants that have ill-positioned their firms, and now the market regards them as computer repair people.

It’s like the many accountants who call themselves business experts.

But just as possessing a library card can’t give us the wisdom of Yoda, a few years of swapping mother boards and replacing crashed hard drives can’t turn us into IT consultants.
