What's Your Cancellation Policy?

Every time we decide to implement a copywriting initiative, we all make a serious commitment. When I accept your engagement, I have to turn down several other engagement to avoid over-booking myself or conflict of interest with one of your direct competitors. So, when an engagement is cancelled for no apparent reason, it sends my schedule into a tailspin and I don't like it.

The other thing is that the engagement's intensity is the highest at the beginning. Think of an airplane...

Do you know that a plane drinks up 63% of its total fuel while taxiing out to the runway and taking off? And the whole process is less than 1% of the total journey.

Copywriting is the same. The first few days take up the most energy. Therefore, my cancellation or kill fees are set as follows...

  1. 10% of the full fee if you cancel after we've agreed to proceed and I've booked my calendar, but haven't actually started yet

  2. 25% of the full fee if you cancel after I've started the work but I haven't submitted work yet

  3. 50% of the full fee if you cancel after I've submitted the overall copy outline

  4. 75% of the full fee if you cancel after I've submitted the first draft copy

  5. 100% of the full fee if you cancel after I've submitted the first draft copy and one or more revised copy
