FAQ: Who Handles The Work?
I handle every engagement personally. I have no assistants and no outsourced helpers and copywriters in India or China. So, if you hire my firm and you get me. This is why my workload is very limited.
Everything my firm accepts is done by me personally.
Of course this has both advantages and disadvantages. Some of the disadvantages are that...
- Some of your key people have to drop other initiatives to work with me on your engagement
- Engagements take a bit longer to complete depending on your people's other commitments
- My fees are higher than that of firms that use lots of cheap outsourced help in India or China mass-producing shrink-wrapped off-the-shelf deliverables
And the advantages are that...
- There is direct communication, so we can work very effectively
- There is higher level of involvement from your company, so your people can learn a lot during implementation
- The quality of work is guaranteed because I have no one else working with me in my firm
- No passing the buck, and if you don't like something, there is only one throat to choke
- You always deal with the top decision-maker... me, and in doing so we can avoid unnecessary delays
- As a small one-man band, I am more responsive
- I'm not subsidising armies of juniors who want to learn the trade and your business on your dime
- My approaches are highly customised to your specific needs and are flexible. Unlike most large firms with armies of trainees, that often use "cookie cutter" (they call them proprietary) methodologies, our approaches are the result of a detailed collaborative objective development process, and solutions are based on your objectives with your full involvement
- Since I recognise you as unique, you deserve a unique approach, which I can provide because I haven't invested millions in commercialised and certified "systems" or "methodologies"
- There are no conflicts of interest and priorities with dozens of other clients, since I take only a few clients at a time, so my attention is better focused on the value you receive
- Your extra expenses are less because my travel, administrative, and support expenses are small
- Since we're not doing cattle farming here, our engagements are about value you receive and results you achieve, not headcount we employ
- I have access to great talents for specific aspects of the engagement if needed. But unlike large firms, I'm not restricted to using whoever happens to be on payroll and happens to be available within the firm
- I work on only a few projects and focus on quality. Unlike large firms and surgeons that can bury their screwed up projects (I used to be an embalmer and heard a few things that would make people pretty uncomfortable regarding medical care), I can't bury my mistakes
Size doesn't matter, only improvement in your condition. A small agile, innovative and flexible "boutique" firm with a healthy dose of "killer instinct" can be more advantageous to your progress and prosperity than an oversized, top-heavy, "reputable" behemoth, riddled with internal politics, heavy-handedness and an army of business graduates being keen on learning the trade on your dime, eating up a fair chunk of your budget before they can contribute even the value of a ham sandwich.
